European Gender Equality Index 2020

On the 29th of October, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) held a conference for the release of the 2020 edition of its European Gender Equality Index. This event featured experts from EIGE, policymakers, researchers, and representatives of civil society, among others.

This year’s report features a special focus on digitalisation in the world of work, an issue of key importance as workplaces continue being in a rapid state of flux due to the need to maintain social distancing, and something TeRRItoria partners have brought up in previous publications. Other key takeaways included the pace of progress, indicating the full equality is 60 years away at the current pace of improvement.

TeRRItoria are proud to count among our 5 Transformative Experiments one run by partners in Greece, the lowest-ranked country in this year’s edition of the index, having scored only 52.2 out of 100 (as opposed to top-ranking Sweden’s 83.8). Why proud? Well, our Greek consortium members are working precisely on the RRI key of Gender Equality. The Region of Central Macedonia (RCM) and South-East European Research Centre (SEERC) are currently working hard to implement Gender Equality Plans in their region. Recent progress in this transformative experiment has included the establishment of a Gender Equality Committee within RCM. This Transformative Experiment will begin in earnest in the coming months and more information on its progress will be available on this website and through our project newsletter and Twitter account.

The 2020 European Gender Equality Index – including the full report, factsheets, datasets, and a small game – can be viewed on and downloaded from the organisation’s website at this link. The recordings from the conference can be viewed here.
