#ResponsibleRegions – first dialogue

TeRRItoria is glad to announce the launch of #ResponsibleRegions, a series of monthly dialogues that will deal with the concepts of the Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3) and Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI). EURADA and the TeRRItoria consortium will organise these dialogues with the aim of sharing the valuable experience of Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) and local actors in developing and adapting strategies for regional development.

Regional developers are used to ever-changing economic dynamics. While the current sanitary and economic crisis are unprecedented, regional development agencies and their regional/territorial ecosystems are experienced in crisis management.

In today’s crisis, as the global economy’s pace of change is accelerating, so are other dynamics (politics, society and technology). To meet these disruptions,  it is time to take stock of how existing tools and policies available in European regional development and research and innovation come together. In regional development, regions are fortunate to have had access to methodical European Union approaches such as the S3 paradigm and RIS3 to manage the economic transformation. These regional development approaches and policies can combine with important aspects of research and innovation policy (RRI) to ensure that economic transformations brought about by R&I are in line with societal needs and expectations.

With #ResponsibleRegions, the TeRRItoria partners would like to strengthen the international exchanges between RDAs, regional governments, and/or local authorities in order to create the possibility for strong mutual learning. Additionally, these dialogues aim to raise awareness of and competence around S3 and RRI among all their participants.

The first event will take place on Thursday the 19th of November at 15:00 CET and foresees the illustration of the new S3 strategy from Business Upper Austria: “#upperVISION2030 business and research strategy” from Klaus Oberreiter, Policy & location strategy at Business Upper Austria – OÖ Wirtschaftsagentur GmbH. It is possible to read to an executive summary of the new S3 strategy by clicking here.

The event, moderated by Esteban Pelayo, Director of EURADA – the European Association of Development Agencies – will also include the participation of two panellists: Carmen Sillero, Head of S3 Strategy for Andalusia at Agencia Idea, and Fernando Mérida, Expert in innovation policy and territorial cooperation at the Joint Research Centre.
